Since September 2018, this semi-realistic, semi-surreal mural has adorned the previously dreary wall of the building at Manteuffelstraße 12 in Kreuzberg, one of Berlin’s hippest districts.
The precise interplay of light and shade gives the mural the look of a photograph – yet Berlin artist TANK has created a surreal cityscape behind the woman’s closed eyes. The piece is in black and white. Only the little bird appears in colour, catching the viewer’s attention.
