Greek artist Gera1 describes himself thus: “I’ve been fascinated by distortions and reflections of colour for as long as I can remember. They’re everywhere. Hold a glass of water in front of your eyes or look at the reflection of the city in the puddles humming with traffic on the streets. They are all real – no matter how surreal they may seem.”
Through his art, Gera1 manages to reconcile this contradictory split in reality. He combines the figurative with techniques from what is known as “glitch art” to visually reproduce the variety in a face – in other words, a reality. In his current work in Berlin, the Athenian chose the soft-looking face of a young model from Milan. The work’s splendid colours are sure to catch the eye.
It is the artist’s second wall in Berlin, and his first work has already fallen victim to the changing times. Which makes it all the more delightful that, as of September 2022, a Gera1 mural now decorates the streets of Berlin once again, enriching the Hellersdorf district along Stendaler Strasse with vibrant, life-affirming colours.
