Attempt to make progress on climate protection with socially responsible refurbishment of housing
More than 80 per cent of people in Germany consider climate protection to be important – but they do not want it to lead to higher rents. So, in an effort to increase society’s acceptance of energy-efficient refurbishments, Deutsche Wohnen has developed a model that enables climate protection and social responsibility to be combined. Its “Plan for socially responsible climate protection in the housing sector” aims to increase the rate at which buildings are refurbished in order to achieve Germany’s national climate protection targets. At the same time, an economic stimulus package running to billions is proposed.

In the first half-year, Deutsche Wohnen continued its stable development, and its results were in line with the forecast. Furthermore, the company is making systematic progress with its ambitious climate and new-build strategy. As before, Deutsche Wohnen takes a positive view of the intended business combination with Vonovia SE.

Deutsche Wohnen SE and Vonovia SE today signed an agreement to combine the two com-panies. In this context, Vonovia has announced to launch a voluntary public takeover offer for all outstanding shares in Deutsche Wohnen.

First anniversary of Deutsche Wohnen’s support for “Housing First” initiative
For one year now, Deutsche Wohnen has been supporting two social agencies that are putting the “Housing First” project into practice in Berlin. The approach that underpins this project is being successfully implemented in numerous cities worldwide in order to bring an end to homelessness. With the help of “Housing First”, flats are made available to homeless people unbureaucratically. In fact, in the course of its collaboration with the two agencies in Berlin, Deutsche Wohnen has been able to make a total of 21 flats available to date.

“No tenant of Deutsche Wohnen will lose the home as a result of the decision”
With the decision of March 25, 2021, published today, the 2nd Senate of Federal Constitutional Court has declared the so-called Berlin rent cap (MietenWoG Bln) incompatible with the Basic Law and therefore null and void. Deutsche Wohnen SE welcomes the court’s swift decision, as it creates the necessary legal certainty for both tenants and landlords.

Deutsche Wohnen: emergency aid and sending furniture to Ukraine
The conflict in Ukraine has quickly turned into a fully-fledged humanitarian disaster that has triggered worldwide horror and disbelief. Deutsche Wohnen condemns war and violence and stands in solidarity with Ukrainians who have fled their country, as well as those at home. Accordingly, Deutsche Wohnen has cleared out two of its furniture warehouses in Berlin and is donating most of the furniture to refugees who fled to the city of Lviv in western Ukraine. The rest of the furniture will go to Ukrainian refugees in Berlin.
