Topsstrasse is a small street located just a stone’s throw away from the famous Max-Schmeling-Halle in the Berlin locality of Prenzlauer Berg. It is home to a 1930s residential complex that has been thoroughly renovated both inside and outside.

The Otto Suhr Estate is centrally located in the locality of Kreuzberg in the borough of Friedrichshain-Kreuzberg. It was built in the 1960s and was one of the first large-scale housing estates in Berlin. Then, as now, it stands out on account of its ample room for green spaces and its striking balconies with their brickwork.

Gewobag and Deutsche Wohnen have signed a purchase agreement for the acquisition of apartments as well as adjoining plots of land in Franz-Künstler-Straße 2 in Kreuzberg. The transaction involves three parcels of land measuring 8,500 m2 in total. There is a 15-storey tower block consisting of 116 apartments and 3 commercial units on one of the plots, whilst currently there are garages on a further plot.

In 2008, six housing estates of Berlin Modernism (Siedlungen der Berliner Moderne) were listed as UNESCO World Heritage sites. Four of these estates are part of Deutsche Wohnen’s portfolio. In 2018, to mark the tenth anniversary of this occasion, the property company commissioned a documentary film on the heritage of these extraordinary developments.

At first glance, every building on the Heinrich Böll Estate looks equally modern and well-kept. But there’s something quite different about one of the buildings: the eco-house. It sounds new, but that’s not the case: the Heinrich Böll Estate as a whole was completed back in 1999, with just over 300 apartments, as an ‘eco-friendly and healthy living’ model project.
