The model of sustainable building
Not particularly appealing or energy efficient – that’s the best way to describe the residential and commercial complex at Argentinische Allee 221 before Deutsche Wohnen began fully refurbishing the 1970s building in 2016.
As part of the refurbishment, the building, that had stood by itself until then, was architecturally integrated into Bruno Taut’s neighbouring Forest Estate. Accessible apartments and an attractive living environment were also taken into account. As part of the building works, Deutsche Wohnen took into account sustainability criteria that are otherwise only applied in new developments. It was possible to reduce energy consumption by 80%. The time and effort paid off: the typical 1970s building was turned into a model for sustainable development. It was even awarded Gold status by the German Sustainable Building Council (DGNB).
